1) If a student is absent, where can absent or make-up work be found?
The Google Classroom webpage is the primary source to go to when looking for classwork and homework activities. Missing class will place your child behind since new Common Core and NGSS standards are based on heavy student interaction and class time communication. If an absence is planned, please come see Mr. Bennett in room 12 before the absence and a packet of work may be given to you. If an absence is not planned, students are responsible for checking Google Classroom for what they missed. There are two small shelves directly below the white board in front of the class that hold absent work. They will be labeled ODD for students that have science during periods 3, 5 & 7 and EVEN for students that have science in periods 2, 4, 6 & 8.
WHEN IN DOUBT, CHECK THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM SITE.

2) What can a student do if their grade is not as high as it should be?
In order for students to be successful in 8th grade science there are a few basic responsibilities that they need to take care of.
1) Turn homework in on time
2) Participate in class discussions, labs and activities
3) Study outside of class time for quizzes and tests
Giving extra credit at the end of the quarter to cover up weeks of poor performance does not occur. Please contact Mr. Bennett if you have specific questions about grades. See the class syllabus on the Information & Links tab above for further information about grading procedures.
Parents should try to check the daily agenda in their child's agenda and/or Google Classroom. Letters or phone calls will be issued throughout the year notifying parents of important tests and quizzes.

3) Where can updated grades be found?
Rafer Johnson Junior High uses an online program to securely store grades so that both students and parents can monitor academic progress. Mr. Bennett updates science grades at least once a week, usually on Thursdays. All students are given a username and password at the beginning of the school year to access the grades. A username and password are required to access this information. Please call the office at 897-1091 for instructions to log in to ABI or to obtain a username and password.
4) What is the best method to contact Mr. Bennett?
Email is the best method of communication.
5) As a parent, how can I help my child understand science concepts and expand their science knowledge?
One of the best ways to you help your child learn is to be available to assist them when they are studying for a test or completing homework. There are thousands of science help sites on the web and others that make us just wonder and think. Check out the Information & Links tab above for some links to explore the topics of 8th grade science. If you come upon a website that would be helpful for students in science class, please let Mr. Bennett know and it may be added to this site :).
